Why the Bluefin Swim Team
The swimmers who stay are the swimmers who get good
Competitive swimming, built on a British curriculum — safety, confidence, skill, and a love of the water.
Three things make the difference:
1. A pathway that goes somewhere
Academy to Pre-Competitive to Competitive, aligned to Swim England Stages 8–10 and British Swimming’s LTAD, with clear criteria to move up. Your child always has a next goal, not just “a squad”.

2. Progress you can see
Every skill, turn and personal best is tracked in the Bluefin app.

You always know where your child is and what’s next, and PBs and squad moves are celebrated by the whole team.

3. They’ll love coming
Sessions built to be fun as well as demanding, a real team to belong to, and coaching that builds confidence, not burnout. The swimmers who stay are the swimmers who get good.
The Squad Pathway
Academy
Strong Level 4+ swimmers, as extra sessions alongside lessons
What they train:
Technique across the strokes; the first taste of training — streamline, pace clock, following a set; legal turns and starts introduced.
Pre-Competitive
Developing racers, around Level 6+
What they train:
Refined technique in all four strokes, an aerobic base, and 100m IM with racing turns; underwater phases, competitive starts and first galas.
Competitive
Racing swimmers
What they train:
Training load and periodisation, event specialisation, race strategy, external meets and the route into club swimming. Recommended 3x sessions per week +.
The 25m butterfly is the key gate for moving from Academy to Pre-Competitive.
The Training Week
The week is built from four session types — stroke development, endurance, sprint and race preparation. Pre-Competitive and Competitive sessions run 1.5 hours; Academy runs the same shape in about an hour, lighter and fun-first. Every session is designed to stand on its own, so a swimmer attending part of the week still gets a balanced, worthwhile stimulus.
Training works in blocks that build toward competition: a technique block to rebuild foundations, a build block for aerobic base and race skills, a race-prep block to sharpen speed for a meet, then recovery and reset.

Billed monthly in advance, renewing automatically until cancelled. Academy is an add-on to an active Learn to Swim subscription, not a replacement — RM239 + RM100 = RM339 per month. Swim Team membership covers squad training only; it does not include other Bluefin lessons, competition entry fees or swim kit. New joiners pay a one-off RM90 registration fee.
We do not charge SST.
If a swimmer cannot attend and we are given at least 24 hours’ notice, a make-up in another available session may be arranged within the same calendar month. Make-ups have no cash value. Where Bluefin cancels a session, we will always offer a replacement of the swimmer’s choosing and will be flexible on timing.
FAQ
Bluefin Swim Team costs RM239 per month for one session a week, RM299 for two, RM335 for three, and RM389 unlimited squad sessions. The Academy add-on, for strong Learn to Swim swimmers who want a first taste of training, is RM100 per month on top of a Learn to Swim subscription.
A child is usually ready for squad training once they can swim competently at Bluefin Level 4 or above. Strong Level 4+ swimmers are invited into our Academy squad as extra sessions alongside their normal lessons, then move up to Pre-Competitive around Level 6.
Swimming lessons teach the strokes. Squad training develops fitness, race skills and competition performance in swimmers who can already swim. At Bluefin, Learn to Swim covers six levels of stroke development, and the Swim Team takes strong swimmers through Academy, Pre-Competitive and Competitive squads toward galas and external meets.
Yes. Academy swimmers race at Novice galas, Pre-Competitive swimmers race regularly, and Competitive swimmers enter external swim meets and build toward the club pathway.
It depends on age and stage. Bluefin follows British Swimming’s Long-Term Athlete Development model, which places all-round skill and enjoyment ahead of training volume for younger swimmers. Our Academy swimmers train once a week alongside lessons, while Competitive swimmers may train up to four times a week.
